I was able to reassemble the rear axle, just in time to drive to work today. Something has been weighing on my mind. Had no issues, no vibrations, no noise, car ran and drove great. But I remembered when pulling this block thing from the center of the carrier to access the c clips, after removing the thin bolt, it was able to slide right out.

When I got to the point of reassembling that specific piece after installing the new axle, this block thingy wouldn't slide in. I encouraged it with a hammer because after all, I had to leave for work in a mere 45 minutes. No time to dick around. Is this something I should be concerned about knowing that piece is rather tight in there? I am assuming it is putting pressure on the c clips, as it puts outward force on the axles. Something worth removing the axle and repairing? Or is this something that as I drive, normal wear will create the clearance on its own?

You need about .050" to axle clearance. if not it will eat it self and you will not be able to remove the pin.

I do not know why it slid out then had to be hammered back in. I would have taken the bus or hitch hiked or a taxi until I found out why....

I have to pull the axle back out anyways. The brand new axle seal is leaking gear oil all over the highway. I will update after that is taken care of.

i dont think ive ever taken that piece out. ive always taken out the c clips with a magnet. sometimes the spider gears get cocked when you try to reinstall all that and cause stuff to bind up.
