Good thing I keep all this old shit from 20 years ago. Looks like I might be slightly over at 65ft/lbs with aluminum heads. These are the 190,000 psi studs not the 200,000 psi in your instructions Dave.

I have only been torquing the BB arp studs to 65-70, and I reuse the head gaskets several times on the race engines unless the felpro sticks or tears which they never do. I think the more important thing is to make sure the torque is the same as what it was torque plate honed at so the cylinders are not distorted when the heads are torqued (they should both be the same, torque plate, and head) The after market blocks will handle more torque before the deck starts to lift around the stud than stock blocks will. Even though the stud can handle the higher torque, the block deck can't, and stock specs should be used in my opinion regardless of stud specs. The temptation is always to over torque, but you are actually lifting the deck so the head is sitting on a bunch of raised stands around the stud causing a poor gasket seal, and distorted cylinder walls.
