I may have posted this in the wrong spot so re-posting here.

While changing my oil I found this written on the side of my new to me 98 Grand Cherokee 5.9. Hoping someone knows what it means. Thanks.

Most probably the engine is from the junkyard.

That looks like the API oil codes for 30W oil CD CC. Both CD and CC are old and now considered obsolete but were likely the oils that contained the better levels of Zinc for metal to metal contact protection.

Odometer shows 233,500 and it runs great. Will be doing a compression check today. I don't mind a junkyard used engine if its in good shape but all appears original.

The oil codes make sense. I'll go with that.

I could have been stumped by this one for a long time. Thanks.

Compression numbers

1...158
2...142
3...160
4...162
5...154
6...150
7...150
8...158

Any opinions on these numbers? (Dodge 360 in a 98 Grand Cherokee)

Great idea!

I had a 5.2 Grand Cherokee and sold it for this 5.9

The difference is amazing. This thing flys.
