Just a general question in compression, if I wanted to raise or lower the ratio what would be the differance in either.changing piston dome/dish or getting a headgasket with different bore size same compressed thickness. Would changing bore size reflect squish effectiveness or flame travel?

I would say that changing the gasket bore isn't going to do a lot to affect compression ratio. You're very limited on the amount you can actually change it to start with since you have head bolts, water passages, etc. in the way. I would think if you had and engine design that would allow you to change it a decent amount the fuel / air mixture that is going to be trappped in there isn't going to burn - not enough exposure to the flame front. It's sorta the same reason manufacturers raised the top ring postion - to decrease the crevice volume or trapped fuel that doesn't get burned. It was for emmissions but that sorta leads to effeciency also which is a good thing. I wouldn't think it would effect squish much if at all since the piston / head distance is unchanged. Personally I don't like domed pistons and would rather do compression increases with smaller chambers or larger bore / stroke if possible. Granted I'm not an engine builder but I've had better luck doing it that way. Welcome to Smokemup! Clay
