| I have a 400 short block that was rebuild a while back. When i rotate the engine it will reach a spot and then hang up. I removed the lifters and the fuel pump still hangs up in this one spot. Any ideas? I think I will pull the timing chain cover next to see if there is a bind are obstruction there |

Maybe something dropped down the intake during assembly sitting on top of a piston? Look through the plug holes with a flashlight and you might be able to see something. Is is on the engine stand? You could rotate it on the stand and see if you hear anything "spare" stuff rattle around. Welcome to Smokemup! was it a stock rebuild or were better rods installed? factory 400 rods are different to clear the camshaft and not all rods will clear. clay _________________ I have done so much with so little for so long, I can now do anything with nothing. |

does it have a windage tray ? had a "builder" send me one that he didnt bother to check clearances and it would only make 1/4 turn in either direction. _________________

| I had one once hitting the crank counter weight on the small end of the rod where it flares out slightly around the wrist pin. It cleared the under side of the piston, but the pin boss hung down slightly below, and the counter weight hit it at bottom dead center, and you could definitely feel it stick when rotated by hand |

considering there wasnt any follow up, i would bet it was assembler/installer error. _________________
