Well I thought it would be good to start a seperate thread for the trans. I have checked my second case now and it is also junk. I do have another lined up free of charge. I did purchase the best case saver solution for these transmissions on ebay for $90. It is a 700R4 thick low/reverse support with a plate that you bolt to it after the support is installed with the snap ring. This provides another fresh set of case lugs to keep this thing from rotating in the case. The old school anti rattle clip replacement case saver is no where near as good as this. I'm out $50 at this point searching with 1 more to go. TCI does sell cases for $150. I'll check the next one and then maybe consider the TCI instead of playing $50 gambling for a good one.

They both look pretty much like this.

Picked up another case $0 with multi bell configuration. If it is good I will have to cut the multi off to get the super shield to fit.

I didn't know about that method of center support. I've used the solid piece to replace the spring clip but that's it. The last one I did looked close to the one in the pic - not quite as bad though. It was going to go in a low horsepower setup so it should be fine but I like the other method. Thanks for sharing - I learned something new - cool. Clay

Search on ebay for this.

350/C-700R4-4L60E NEW CENTER SUPPORT ASSY. CASE SAVER

This is what it looks like

Installed something like this. The snap ring is under the top plate. These are nice I wish I knew that these were out there a while ago.

I searched for the e-bay ad and got the general jist but wasn't exactly sure. Thanks a lot for the pictures - makes it very clear now. That's a cool solution. Clay

The Multi bell case is ok not perfect but better than the other 2 I checked. I really don't want to hack the bell housing though to fit the shield over it. I have a friend that got me my last case looking for me.

Here is the case saver that arrived yesterday. Slightly different design with more bolts that are not so closed to the edge of the upper plate.

Case Found! 8 cases later I found a good one. Just have to swap over the parts. Should be good to go at least with the trans.

Case has a hairline crack parallel to the end of the case right at the top of the middle of the bell. 5" from the block face.. Found it when I was helicoiling the front pump bolts. I deburred this case thoroughly and I find this near the end of the prep work. Damn! Head Bang

I know the guy that I got this from has more and he will do me right. Just have to get back up there and make the exchange.

Thanks for the offer but I do have one of those and it won't fit under the CSI shield. If I grind it to fit it will weaken it. It does look to be just a casting flaw not a crack so I might try to grind it out with a cartridge roll on my die grinder. I'll post a pic later today.

It must have either took a shot during its life or it was cast this way. The outside has a definite depression on the bell. Just no impact marks. The line across the top in this photo should be straight and you can see it isn't.

Wonder if someone wasn't paying attention when pulling an engine and it was hitting the trans tunnel. They would have to be pretty hamfisted though but that's my guess. I agree with 10sec.et though, TIG over it and sleep good. Clay
