I'm going up to New England Dragway Saturday for Test & Tune. No changes other than a set of Hoosier Drag Radials in place of Mickey Thompson ET Streets. Figured if I change the gears too I won't know which did the trick.
Do any of you run Hoosier's on the street. Their website really stresses that they are not to be driven on the street. Obviously with their lack of tread, they're not to be driven with any water on the road. I'm worried that the sidewalls won't like sustained 70-75 MPH on the street. I only go that fast for 20 miles or so to & from the drags.
Just mounted a pair of BF Goodrich Radial TA's to get me to the track, changing to the Hooisers at the track.. |

Gene, you are killing me!!! You are worried about 75 mph on the street but will run in excess of 120mph at the track? |

Maybe I'm being paranoid, Adam.
A couple of articles I've found say that sustained highway speed will, or can, blow a sidewall because of heat buildup.
Never found articles like this about any other D.O.T. approved tires. |

I think what this is from Hoosiers perspective is covering their ass in case of an issue.
If it is inflated to only race inflation say less than 20 psi then yes it will get hot.
Inflate them to the standard 32psi or whatever you normally put them at for street duty and you will be fine. Thinking about what the sidewall would be doing at highway speeds and low inflation pressures I do see a potential issue. _________________ 2001 Focus 2.0 Zetec

Paul,
I figured that Hoosier was just protecting their ass. With the MT ET Streets I ran 33 PSI on the street. Couldn't find any pressure recommendations on the Hoosier site.
Squeeezer,
Glad to hear someone is running them on the street. Don't plan to run it in the rain. |

Gene,

No problem, Adam
Here's hoping the air & track are good. The Nova runs cool so hopefully I can make a number of passes. I made 15 last time out. I usually get in at least 10. |
