Welcome to SmokemUp. It could. A hole or tear in the vacuum advance diaphragm in the distributor could also cause it. Was this a sudden thing or always there? _________________ 2001 Focus 2.0 Zetec

Is this carbuerated or fuel injected? If its carbed I have seen power valves that are not low enough for the engines vacuum to cause surging problems also.

I have also seen centrifugal weight springs that were a little too light cause this. They would allow the distributor to advance at the higher idle speeds than the factory had in mind (probably 600 or so). Sometimes this advance can get the engine into a surging idle. Slightly stronger springs usually controls it. Clay _________________ I have done so much with so little for so long, I can now do anything with nothing. |

can you describe the surge ? is it a rapid surge or does the idle seem to intermittently go up and down ? _________________

The frustrating thing about this post is the quote you left as you did in another post after a couple of suggestions.
It seems we can look at our magical Balls and come up with a fix?
