Try using a few different ground points. Using the same ground point as the MSD might work.
Have you tried disconnecting the tach, feeding the LM2 directly?
What are you using as the trigger for the MSD? _________________ Stop running from your pain and embrace your pain. Your pain is going to be a part of your prize.

I also have that big noise cap on mine. Not sure if you installed that but it might be of help. I do have a tach adapter on my car for the fuel system trigger and tach. I think a combination of these should get you going. _________________ 2001 Focus 2.0 Zetec

If you want to test one of the caps Paul is talking about I have one I can send you to try. I don't know why it should be so finicky about the signal. You would think Innovate would design it to handle about anything given it's intended market. I'll have to think on another signal input. How about putting 4 bolts in the crank pulley for flags and making a bracket for a crank position sensor to look at them. If crank position sensors use 5v you should be able to use that power supply to run it. Still don't know if the Innovate would be happy with it - just the first brain fart I had. i have determined that, unless the tach signal is coming out of a computer and is perfect, this piece of shit LM2 is not going to read it.
the LM2 powers through the cigarette lighter adapter and there is only the tach input wire . it worked in the Impala like this. msd is getting its signal from a retard module that is getting its signal from a magnetic pickup. no configuration of wiring makes any difference. i probably have nearly 20 hours in this thing by now. its time to ebay this POS and get something that actually works. _________________

Can you pull a ground directly from the cig lighter? Just a thought, last ditch effort. _________________ Stop running from your pain and embrace your pain. Your pain is going to be a part of your prize.

That's the spirit, sell it to Uncle Sam over the number of years you can depreciate it.
I was also wondering if some of your older testing equipment (that Uncle Sam lets you use out of the grandiose good nature of the government's heart) can find any RPM signal as you probe it.

i have officially tried everything... tach filters, a tach adapter, a GMR pickup, every wiring configuration i can think of. unless you are hooking that LM2 up to a computer controlled car, its not going to read the tach signal. its useless on anything but EFI. _________________

That makes sense. EFI is the only system that needs tuning for any changes anyway - carburetors are self adjusting and can better compensate for any engine changes with their out of the box configurations.
That actually sounded pretty good 😄😄. Makes me want to believe my own B.S. 😄😄. I hate it turned out that way for you. At least your done with it and can move on. Clay _________________ I have done so much with so little for so long, I can now do anything with nothing. |

Stick an HEI on it for tuning if you have the room or a mallory uni-lite with a standard coil. The tach adapter I have does work with the MSD and fuel injection. There are 2 different tack adapters when I was buying them. One was voltage triggered the other I can't recall. _________________ 2001 Focus 2.0 Zetec

it has an HEI. its using the magnetic pickup. the LM2 simply wont read the signal. the tach adapter i have can be wired both ways and i tried them both. i have literally run out of options with this thing. i suppose i could change ignition system and make it work but thats ridiculous. i just need to get my jetting right and i dont really need it anymore. _________________

With the MTX-L you can view it live on the gauge itself and data log the AFR and if you start fat(rich) and log it through a range you can look at it even without RPM to know you are in the ball park. I have a dyno pull AFR that I will check against to get the final tune right. Did not have time/$$ to finish it on the dyno but it is close enough and I know the top and timing is where it needs to be. _________________ 2001 Focus 2.0 Zetec

yet another disappointment with this lm-2..... it wont recognize the memory card. it needs one to record. i pulled the one out of my digital camera (known good card) and it gives me an error message saying no card. this was truly the last straw with this innovate junk. ill never buy another innovate product.
we installed a RPM Performance datalogger in the Austin. it performs flawlessly. no calibrating sensors, setting up dash boards, selecting channels, or any of that hassle. just wired it up and turned it on. thats where im going for my datalogger. its time to save up and get something that works. http://www.rpmperf.com/ _________________
