I need head bolts main and rod bolts for my Gen 1 SBC. Is there a good cheaper alternative to ARP? I found a stainless fastener kit on ebay just for external visible bolts from a machine shop somewhere in Alabama I think, and they were significantly cheaper. Looking for the same kind of deal.

The extra $100.00 for ARP is the best insurance you can buy.

most stainless bolts are barely grade 5. leave that garbage for the show cars. its nothing more than jewelry. when it comes to critical fasteners such as rods, mains, heads you have to ask yourself "is it worth the savings when i have to pick up the pieces with a shovel ?" .

DB bolts are an alternate. It is what I am using for the bolts under my Brodix port intruder.

Here is a place to get them.

I'm using head studs from I believe Skip White - ebay stuff - as a test. No problems so far at some pretty decent power levels. However for anything that failure that is going to be catastrophic such as rods and mains I'm ARP all the way. Clay
