Uuuhhh, I'll have to say in the context you used it - o.k., but I'll have to admit that's strange for that to be a gearhead saying. Everything looks great, I'm envious. I love the way a high compession engine "cracks" at idle and when you whack the throttle. In that respect mine sounds like a turd. Keep the pics coming. Clay

It was a joke only. I guess it could be taken the wrong way out of context as you have it quoted..... Wink

More pics will be coming.

All I have left to purchase is an oil pump, bearings, lifters and pushrods. Odd thing the intake gaskets will have to be 1206 felpros with the ends cut off to locate the coolant passages. Ports are 2.2"x1.31"

Paul, on the intake gaskets.
I have a set that will work without cutting and pasting.
Let me know.

Adam,
The 1206 gaskets that I just purchased look to be very close. I might have to elongate the holes slightly. Ports are a match. What do you have that you think might work?

They are RR for Protopline. From center of bolt holes the water is 1" to bottom and 1/4" to top. Ports are 1.125" bottom and 1.125" to top and 1.31" wide. They are .090 thick gray paper.

I drilled the steam holes in the heads this morning using a new 1014 head gasket as a template. I drilled the 3 on the exhaust side and 1 between the exhaust on the intake side at a 30 degree angle. I did not drill the others because there is no water there at all just the casting between the intake ports. See Pic.

Jeep,
Which Joe Gibbs do they run for break in? After what do they recommend?

Paul,
I don't have any break in oil here but I think there is only one Joe Gibbs break in oil.
I got some recently for a flat tappet 260 Ford engine that we are putting in a 1930 Ford Pickup. Obviously not built for performance but I'm scared of wiping a cam even with the low spring pressures. To be sure, I'll be more than happy to check with Paul Rinaldi if you want. I'm a big fan of his. I haven't been up to Golen's for a while. Trying to save on gas.
I run the Joe Gibbs Driven Hot Rod 15W50 High Performance Synthetic in my 408.
