Sure, but nothing cheap (except nitrous Twisted Evil ). Honestly a supercharger on a 350 would do it, but I don't see anyway to do it naturally aspirated with those pistons. Clay

http://www.small-block-chevy.com/assemblyspec.html

The factory 400's actually used a shorter rod (5.565") to allow using the same pistons as a 350. I didn't mention it because it's generally accepted to be a bad idea to actually use them. They cause a lot of side loading on the piston and I believe Chevrolet actually machined the pad the head of the rod bolt sits on lower to give more rod / cam clearance with the 3.75" stroke. This further weakens the rod in this area so with any decent rpm and power, it's a short fuse grenade if you get my drift. Is this your first engine build? If so I have a suggestion. To keep things simple and learn a lot, go to the junkyard and buy a late model Vortec 350. Even one with 100,000 miles probalby won't need much at all in the way of machine work and you can maybe even use the rotating assmebly as is depending on what you can find. I'm guessing you can find a complete engine in the $500 - $700 range. Pull the pan, cam and heads. Get the heads modified by a machine shop for more valve lift and get a basic valve job. Install new spings and call it a day. Swap in a fairly mild cam and reuse the lifters. Rpm air gap intake and carb. With a good tune, headers and exhaust this setup should make high 300's to maybe even touch 400 h.p. at the crank. You'll learn a lot and get satisfaction and enjoyment without all the hassle of building a 383 for your first build. If it runs and sounds good, you can sell it for what you have in it and put that towards another engine if you want or use that block and the heads, intake, headers and exhaust will already be done. Just another thought. Clay

DYCK!!!!! Laughing

You could use the 400 rods at 5.565" . Chances are the skirts will hit the counter weights. ( don't ask!)

I built a good running 383 with 400 rods for a Land Cruiser. If I had to do it again it would be a 400 CI.
As far as 400hp to the wheel? Some might and most don't without 11:1 /good heads and great cam. Or Blown.

pistons are cheap, ditch those pistons and look at a set of hyperutetics if your on a budget build. You need to let us know your goals and budget. A very nice fun 383 or 350 can be had for very little investment, you just got to let us know what you want and what your working with.
