1972 Chevrolet Nova

PostPosted: Sat Oct 30, 2010 3:02 am    Post subject: ONE MORE TIME Reply with quote

Even us old farts can't just pack it in. This is the last weekend for racing at New England Dragway. Last week I didn't get my Nova into the 10's running a best of 11.12 @ 121.72mph.
Went to jet up and found I didn't have the right jets so I said Gosh Darn, or something like that. Figured I was done for the season.

Well, I don't know how many more seasons I have and tomorrow is supposed to be decent and a friend is going to run his car for the first time so the hell with it I'm going up.
I'll let you know what happens.
Driving

My friend hasn't run his car in a couple of years. Sometimes life gets in the way. He's a former 3 time NHRA National Record Holder in a couple of Stock Automatic classes. He's like a son. He grew up on my street. It isn't actually my street Rolling Eyes but you know what I mean.

Good luck. Get that 10 second time slip.

Here's hoping for a stiff tail wind for ya. Don't ever quit either, keep diggin for that 10 second slip. I know it can be frustrating, but it will keep you going. Good luck. Clay

Jeep,
With that MPH you should be in the 10's. Must be soft out of the hole. Good luck.

Weather condition were great for the attempt to dip the Nova into the 10's but it didn't happen. The cool weather and a tail wind gave me a best MPH to date of 123.16
The days best ET was 11.092
I made a ton of runs (21) tried 3 jet changes, a bunch of timing adjustments. Changed rear shock adjustment and tried leaving at various rpm levels. It seemed to work best leaving between 22 & 2500 rpm. I tried 3500 but blew the tires away.
Tried shifting @ 6500 and at 7000 rpm but it went just as quick shifting on it's own at around 61 - 6200 rpm. I say around because my Innovate Data Logger stopped recording.

My son took some video from the stands. I'll pass it on when it becomes available.
I had a great day with my oldest son and someone that grew up on the street where I live. He's like a son. We even changed the Torque Converter in his Camaro. I say we, I should say Michael & Bobby did most of the work.

At my age I just feel lucky doing any of this even on a part time basis.

Knarley, I run it without the AC belt. Saves on all that weight Rolling Eyes

Jeep so close I was routing for ya. The Nova and Chevelle would be a great side by side run if my motor survived. Ran 11.062 2 weeks ago. Finally got video of the run before the cam bearing spun on the return road.

I would be surprised if the AC belt stayed on anyway at those RPMs. If you could get 100 pounds out of it, you would have your 10! 11os is nothing to be ashamed about. That is dang respectable, especially for a street car.

I absolutely agree. I still think there is a 10 in it from what you are describing about the launch. My hat's off to you though, a very quick ride and something to be proud about. I'd love for you and Paul to get together, close runs like that between friends are a blast to do. Clay
