Wrong year cam for you're 406.
Too much duration for the low stall.

got this in there now
Chevy 262-400 cid Hydraulic camshaft, 2200-5200 RPM Range, 290 intake/290 exhaust Adv Dur, Duration @.050 222 intake/222 exhaust, Valve Lift .447 intake/.447 exhaust, Lobe C/L 114.

Application notes: 327cid/ 350 HP L-79 Hydraulic camshaft matches G.M.# 3863151
Im running 1:65 roller rockers so the numbers will be different a bit.

good low end torque on this cam but need more up top.
new cam would be a ton better im thinking

You are joking with this link right?http://iskycams.com/cart/ymm.php?keyword=200282/294
You're price is $1250.00?
Put a 3500 stall with that cam and see how much you will feel.

When you get done with the cam change you will want to get a 3500 converter.

I agree a bigger stall would be better with that cam for max performance.

The first cam should be OK with your set up because of the size of your engine and the low rear end gears without the converter change. It is personally a bit big for my taste for the street. I have a 383 with performer RPM heads matching intake, headers, ect. The cam I used is 230/230 @ .050 with .500 lift, 108 LSA , and it makes an honest 450+ at the crank. I am running a stock converter and it still has enough torque to destroy the tires rolling off idle in my 68 Camaro with 373 gears. I do want to change the converter to about 2200 rpm stall because it idles a bit rough in gear, not because it lacks torque.

Idles a bit rough in gear is why I stated the obvious.

Put some stall in it and you no longer have a turd. A stock converter is around 1800. On a 190# stock cam.

Knarley, put some tires on that and tell me how great it is.
