That's sort of what I was thinking. Even if you couldn't get the intake port quite as large as the head port, it shouldn't be a problem - maybe even have some antireversion benefit. Dave - how about marine applications? I seem to remember from our dirt track days that the Chevrolet's were running a marine 4bbl. intake. Probably nothing different about it and it could have been all rumor though - you know how racers are..........Clay |
Mercruiser made it (same folks that used to make the 8.2 liter BBC pick-up truck motor before Chevy pulled the plug on it) so it will be avialble as a replacement service part to replace a corroded piece.
As to hogging out the oval ports to rectangular port size I hope you have a lot of epoxy; as you will definitly be making your own custom ports where water jackets used to be.

Id offer to keep my eyes open for ya but I know too little of BBC to know what I am looking at with them... I have been stumbling upon good deals for the last little while around here...
If ya come across a pic of said manifold would ya post it? A few of the local yards have some neat stuff hanging out and are reasonable with pricing... _________________ Budgets were meant to be broken. |

Dave,
He is talking about hogging the intake not the heads. lol
MB the gasket shown on Dave's post is the size of the rectangle port the OP needs. |

| its a normal oval port, not peanut port. its in need of a good polishing and cleaning, you know how iron gets. most of the plugs and stuff is there, jsut came off the motor a couple months ago. ill get some pics up soon. honestly i dont know what its worth you probably know more about it then i do, im not too picky about a price. it came off of a 427 tall deck truck motor. the engine blocks casting number is 1006284 when i post pics ill have the intake numbers too. |

So the criteria to watch is BBC, iron, 4150 carb flange, and square port like the gasket above?
I am going yard shopping this week if I can get away _________________ Budgets were meant to be broken. |

Tall deck manifold will not bolt on to a standard deck height block as it will be too wide to fit between the heads. (Though you can use a standard deck height block intake on a tall deck block if you add two spacers about 3/8" thick with an added set of intake gaskets).

Let's just put it this way. That tall deck truck intake is not the best factory cast intake for a BBC...
Keep looking. _________________ 2001 Focus 2.0 Zetec
