I still need to do the brakes on my Camaro. I'm looking for suggestions on which rotors to go with. Intended use is mainly street driving. Should I go with:
* Regular OEM?
* Slotted?
* Cross drilled?
* Slotted and cross drilled?
My main concern on the slotted and/or drilled is cracking of the rotors. _________________

im anti cross drilled and slotted
i understand the theory but those slots get filled up with material and arent you taking away surface area with drill holes
they say you cannot turn these rotors
i have in the past without issues
but then again rotors really only last 1 time around _________________

I agree with you. I'm leaning toward standard OEM unless I find some information otherwise. _________________

| I have had problems with drilled rotors getting hot spots next to the holes. Makes the car feel like the rotors are violently warped under braking, and have had slotted squeal like no other, and couldnt do anything to quiet them. On the 94 Bird we did with the blower, we upgraded using oem Corvette brakes on the front. If memory serves me they bolted right on. |

I put slotted back on my Nova when it needed some. It was a Stainless Steel Brakes kit that had rotors and pads that didn't really cost much more than standard replacement stuff. Brakes were noticably better than factory rotors, however I believe pads contributed more to this than rotors did. I have read about cracking more so on drilled rotors than slotted as the slot doesn't go all the way through, at least on mine they don't. I'd opt for factory rotors and better pads. One interesting thing a SSBC rep told us at a show is for the best initial bite and the lightest pedal, install the cheapest pads you can buy. I have done this on two vehicles and can say he's right. They do wear quicker of course and make a mess of the wheels, but they do stop noticably easier - don't know how they'd handle a high heat situation though. both my cars (Cutlass & Impala) stop VERY well with factory rotors and Wagner ThermoQuiet pads (4-wheel disc on both). ive had some close calls in the Impala and wouldnt use any other pad. _________________

Yep and yep. Can't beat factory most the time. |
