Here are some pictures of my twin turbo install. I ordered these turbo's off of e-bay. I know they are chinese knock off's but I figure they'll last a little while and let me learn something about doing this. I ordered an intercooler also that actually looks pretty good. Still have to get waste gates and get them welded on, but I'm getting there. I'm building the log manifolds out of stainless schedule 10 pipe. I'll say one thing about building headers, especially stainless one's - they are a pain. There are some fitment issues to work out on the car, most of them aren't a big deal - relocating the proportioning / distribution block is probably the worst thing. Clay
Tacking stuff up to scribe the cotouts.

Hole saw roughout.

Close to final shape, I'll clean it up again after welding.

Turbo mounting flange.

After tacking on the engine, I bolted it to this tubing to hopefully keep warpage down. After welding, I put it in the oven for a few hours and let it cool down overnight before I unbolt it.

One finished minus welding the wastegate on the front.

Just a quick look at both sides tacked up.

Well I am not a fan of log manifolds regardless of the material they are made of; and feel a cheesy set of shorty block hugger headers mounted upside down would yield better results. (You could cut and modify the shorties to clear the hood and equal length isn't an issue with a turbo. Do not forget to wrap what ever you use up to keep the heat in (good for another 70 to 100 degrees temp at the drive impeller).

Otherwise I congratulate you on your courage and inventiveness.

Big Dave

I actually agree with you on the log manifold argument - I don't really like them either. I looked for a while to find something I could modify instead of starting from scratch. Block hugger headers put the drives side too far back and I can't get exhaust routed out of the turbine easily because of the master cylinder. There was actully a header on e-bay that was for a SBF that I seriously considered but I would have to cut the flange apart and change the exhaust port spacing to match a SBC. The log setup was the easiest for me to do. All of this stuff I'm doing now is sort of a trial run to learn what makes what happen. It's a lot of work, but it'll help me learn something (I hope anyway). I'll say one thing, if you ever hear about me going into business making headers, call the MIB's because aliens have taken over my brain. I'm glad I did it though as it makes me respect talented people that do this on a regular basis (like 86GN). Clay

IMO, the logs will be more than adequate until you get everything dialed in. there are cars in the 900HP range with logs.

I agree.
What the heck happens when those bitchen hi-flow headers hits the TURBO? Idea

Actually this motor came out of.........my Nova. The engine I'm doing the mock up with is the 383 I ran for years. It made 609 h.p. at the wheels with the Procharger and ran a low 10, something like a 10.07 or something like that - I can't remember exactly. The turbo setup is going to replace the Procharger on my Nova now. I'm interested in turbo's so I thought I'd play with them for a while and see what happens. I'll get some more pictures as I get time to do some more work - as usual a lot going on which sucks as the weather is turning cool and there's going to be horsepower in the air soon. I'm hoping to be running by the end of the year doing some testing / debugging. Clay

I choose not to answer that on the grounds it may incriminate me Very Happy Embarassed . One reason is the simple design that lets me get back in there easily with a die grinder and clean everything back up afterwards. Other reason is being sort of impatient and flat out not wanting to wait to rig up a purge (that is a problem for me sometimes). If it would have been a regular header design I would have had too. Here are some more updates. Got one side pretty much tacked up completely (exhaust side anyway). I'll do some more tomorrow on the drivers side. If I can get the exhaust done, plumbing up the turbo - intercooler - carburetor will be a snap.
