I'm looking for input about the new Hemi's. The reason I ask is I'm seriously considering selling our minivan and getting a used 2005 Durango with the Hemi. I know it's going to be a gas pig but looking for something that can tow the boat, room for the kids and their friends.

I've heard they like to snap valve springs. Has anybody else heard this?

Looking for feedback, good or bad.

Before I bought my 2004, I asked my cousin back east who is a line mechanic at the Dodge dealer what kind of problems those vehicles have. He never works on them and owns a hemi Dodge truck himself. I have a full size truck with 75K miles and haven't experienced any problems. The steering radius is typical Mopar, not very good and my neighbor got her 4x4 Durango stuck in the mud just in front of our house one evening. My 2 wheel drive has very bad rear traction. As far as fuel mileage, the hemi I got is about the same as everything else. As much as 20mpg on the highway on flat ground. I use regular fuel and haven't changed the plugs yet. Hope this helps.

The newer ones (EFI 5.7 liter vs the 7.0 liter street Hemi) have displacement on demand so it becomes a V-4 when cruising. I have heard nothing bad from a service point of view. The one to ask would be a Mopar service tech if we have one on the board.

Even if I thought they were a gas hog I would still sacrifice small furry rodents to obtain a street Hemi (426cid or 7.0 liter if you must) preferably installed in a Plum Crazy Challenger with white interior, though I would take a Passionate pink 'Cuda or a lime green Charger SE if it were forced on me.
