i'm building a 383 sbs,ported202 heads,11.2 compression.it is going in a 2400 lb car for 1/4 mile foot brake racing.would like to have comments on camshafts.i want to run the engine off of torque and less rpm.i am installing a circle track cam,.550 lift and,260 duration at.050.it has a102 lobe center,with106 lobe seperation.everyone has a diff.answer.i want to shift at 6500 and 7000 in the lights.i have plugged in every type cam in my computer program and this type cam makes 20 hp over any other.if i install it -2.0,at 104 it brings my peak hp and torque up 500 rpm's,which is perfect for my 4.86 rear gear.your comments please.some say it is a great combo and others say what a dumb combo.thanks, rusty

Welcome Rice burner,
Is the Circle Track cam a roller or solid flat tappet design?
Are both intake and exhaust lifts and durations the same?
Do you have the flow specs on your heads?
What are you running for induction?

sorry,i forgot,i don't have the flow specs on the heads.i can tell you what they are.the heads are the same that came on a 1970 LT-1....350.370 hp.they are ported on the intake as big as they can go without going through the castings.stainless valves and shaft rockers. i got them from a friend that i work with off his 3000lb s10 running 10.40's ,with a flat top piston 355.(9.40's with spray)

It sounds like a good, typical roundy round cam that we use. In asphalt circle track we almost always install cams advanced, since coming out of the corner is so important. In some dirt applications where traction is a problem I know they try to deaden the motor a little out of the corner. So what I'm getting at, even though the desktop says it will make more upper end power, will the slight loss of lower end delay the responsiveness? (make it a dog?)

If it was me I would install it straight up, get the car dialed in and consistant, then play with the cam timing and compare results. Also if it was me I would be looking for more compression.
