Keith Black (KB) pistons are very good quality. They are a piston that are strong like a forged but allow cast clearances. All well and good but, don't ever touch a piston to valve for any reason. These pistons are like glass, it will explode. I have had engines come to me with these pistons in them and there is nothing left but peices no bigger tham a quarter. To make a long story short, they are good but make sure you check you piston to valve clearance and your wall clearances. As far as the nitrous. they will work fine, just don't hit them with them with too much. Keep it to 150hp. Any more use forged.
I hope this helped
Good luck bud.

Are you sure KB makes a forged piston. I thought all they made were hypereutectic pistons.

What type of heads are you running on your motor? What's the trap speed in the 1/4 mi ?

Somethings amiss, my friend. A SB 406 should put you into the 12s on the motor alone, and from your low trap speeds I would guess your ET problems are not traction related. What's your cam profile? What's your compression ratio?

Are your heads 64 or 76 cc? The stock heads for 78 I think were 76 cc, which means you are running domed pistons to get 10.5 CR. If you somehow got ahold of a 64 cc set, you must have flattops. Which? With a 10.5 CR this thing should definitely be a 12 second ride.

With flattops you probably have the 76 cc heads. Your CR sounds about right and your quench clearance looks OK (.064-.012=.054). I don't understand why this combo doesn't run faster. What are your shift points? How are you carbureted? What are your 60 ft times? I think its awesome that you built this bullet yourself, but I am convinced there is a lot left in there that's not showing, and I'm guessing you'd be happier than heck to make some simple changes that would scrub a half-second or better off your times.

Have you ever put a compression gauge on the 400? How do your plugs look at the end of a pass? What's your jetting?

I am stumped on your combo. I would be reluctant to hit this motor with nitrous until I figured out why it was performing below par. Put a gauge on it and spin it with the plugs out. A 10:1 motor with a 110 LSA cam at or around 220 duration at 50 ought to grunt out 170 psi minimum. If you're much under that you might have a ring problem. Its an easy thing to check even if you're sure its irrelevant. Quite often we get surprised by complacency.
