I need to get a new helmet mine has a snell 90 approval and the track only allows snell 95 or greater. Any suggestions ? My old one is a full face shoei and it's a shame I can't use it because it looks brand new. Sad Anyway I'm considering running an open face helmet. I'm looking for suggestions and a good place to purchase at a reasonable price (if you can't tell I'm hoping to actually race this year!) Mr. Green

Just ordered from Summit and checked their helmet section and they are clearing SA2000 helmets. GForce are like $70.00. SA 2005 are $109.00. So disregard my other post, price is too high. Adam

Are you guys running Snell SA or Snell M helmets? Do the track officials care about the difference?

Per Helmet city FAQs
Quote:
What are the differences between snell SA and snell M standards?
SA Standard was designed for auto racing while M Standard was for motorcycling and other motorsports. There are three major differences between them

1. SA standard requires flammability test while the M standard does not;
2. SA standard allows narrower visual field than M standard (Some SA helmets may not be street legal);
3. SA standard has rollbar impact test while M standard does not.

From what I understand reading the NHRA rule book cover to cover many times while building my car you need a helmet meeting Snell or SFI Specs. Snell K98 can replace any M rated helmet.
SFI Spec 31.1A= Snell SA, open face
SFI Spec 31.2A= Snell SA, full face
SFI Spec 41.1A= Snell M, open face
SFI Spec 41.2A= Snell M, full face
Only the advanced E.T. cars are required to run SA. Adam

It is actually 7.49 and quicker or any Blown Alcohol as far as I see it. If you ever see a rule book it is pretty difficult to decipher. There are too many different class requirements.
