Running a 68 Camaro with a 508 BB 4.600 bore by 3.820 stroke T 400, M/T 30x13.50 E.T. streets (11.2" measured at the tread) 7500 stall with 5.38 gears. 14 to one CR, sheet metal intake with dual 1150s, a 4 stage drysump with radically modified GM aluminum heads. Best et 9.06@ 150.99, and on the limiter from 1100 feet on(9400 rpms) Car weighs 3450 pounds. New combo same as above except has to weigh 3600. engine has same bore, but 3.760 stroke, 499Cubic " 17.2 to 1 CR Pontiac 18 degree bigchiefs and Split 1050s with 4.56 gears. Any input? will the new combo run quicker, even though it has to carry 150 more pounds? What do you guys think???????????

Best et 9.06@ 150.99
---------------------------

you are making at least 902.6 HP
and you would need to make at least 932.0 HP to run same ET with
the 150 Lbs increase

you should have "more potential" to run quicker with the new combo

---------------------

yes, Crank or Flywheel HP ,...but thats the "bare miniumum" possible to run your numbers... so i know you have atleast that much real HP

the 29.4 HP difference needed for 150 lbs would be correct at your
performance/acceleration rate

you're making a little more MPH than necessary to run 9.06 ET
that means you have excess HP not being fully used
your 60 FT might not be perfect for the 9.06 ?
and your RaceCar is probably capable of running faster than the 9.06

HP = Force times Velocity

all i did was look at your MPH and your ET combination to calculate the minimum possible Peak HP you were hooking

sort of like in this Link

http://www.maxracesoftware.com/Quick_HP1.gif

a quick calculation of Greg Anderson's Pro Stock National Record
..you can see Greg could have went as fast as .9935 60 Ft
he went .997 60 Ft in that National Record run

How much do you figure you lost bouncing off the limiter at 1100 feet?

Probably didnt hurt the et. much since it is already going 120 plus by the 8th mile. The best 60' was a 1.320 and typically runs 1.35 60s. It probably would have gone 152 or 153 with the right gear.the 9.06 was in 104 degree heat with the corrected altitude at 3600 feet. I apreciate the feed back, and personally feel the motor should make more power. I am installing a 02 sensor to see if it could be tuned better between tracks and conditions. I did chassis dyno it once (never again) and it only made 764 HP,and 744 torque. The torque seems high to me and the hp lower than I expected. What should the ideal 60' be and how quick should it go at sea level. Pomona is 800 feet above I think. Maybe I could enter Good guys in june and run at a good track before I switch engines. Thanks again for the input.

i used 2000 Ft Density Altitude as a baseline for your calculation

764 Chassis HP
.84 to .85 percent drivetrain efficiency with automatic trans
or
.16 to .15 Drivetrain Loss

764 * ( 1/.84) = 909.5 HP @ Flywheel

764 * (1/.85) = 898.8 HP @ Flywheel

(898.8 + 909.5) * .5 = 904.15 average estimated flywheel HP

pretty close to the 902.6 HP i calculated

some Chassis Dynos claim as much as 20 percent losses
and at 3600 DA ,so you could be making much more than the 902.6 HP minimum i calculated

Your web site is impressive. Can you help me pick a cam for the big chief engine. I have some in mind but would welcome your opinion before I taint it with mine.
