SMOKE

Would you lose MPG on the street with a looser Lock-up converter? I guess you might around town when the converter is not locked up.
How much would a gear change to, say, 342's like they ran in the GN's make?

What changes do you think would be needed to get into the 11's?

I'm not sure how to approach this car because it is a daily driver. I like my 23 mpg's quiet cruising and great street manners. The problem lies in good street manners and traction usually don't mix.

You sound like me! I always get bashed on about not tossing my 3.23 gears out, but I actually drive mine. As it is now, its cruising at 3-3500rpm on the highway and thats more that I'm comfortable with. Sure it would be easy to toss 4.11's & slicks at it and its a 11 sec ride, but try going 20 miles away from home with it. Not really what I call fun anymore.

It can be done without overkill parts, I'm on a mission to prove it Wink You have a major advantage with that tranny, so 3.73's should be a good choice. I know you've been looking at rear ends. A lot of the 4th gen guys swear by the Vigilante converters. I havent looked into them, but these guys are putting 8" converters in street cars & getting away with it. Worth looking into.

Right now the car has 2.73's. With the OD trans 2000 rpm is 80 mph, Mr. Green . I'm considering 3.23 or 3.42 gears.

Actually people are starting to go away from vigilante converters. It seems the hot converters are Yank. I'm considering a 3500 rpm converter but I'm still on the fence about it. The problem is Yank wants $900 Shocked for a converter for this thing!

Since I have no traction right now a converter will only hurt my times. So I will try a set of Nitto Drag Radials and see what that will run.

The goal for the car is low to mid 11's NA and still get 20 mpg's.

The problem is I don't think I have enough money to make it happen. Burn Out

money is the key but theres one way turbocharge it and be done

Sorry missed this before. The 3.42's came stock in the manual cars. I've been looking for a good complete rear end with the torsen diff with no traction control but I haven't found one yet.

To run 11's I think it should need the following:
Cut out ( I want to leave the stock cat back in place).
Headers
3500 converter
Gears (3.23 or 3.42)
ASP underdrive pulley
Ported throttle body
PCM Tuning
160 Thermostat
Tires
Front skinnies.

The above mods with the air lid and FTRA already installed I should be able to run high 11's at about 113 mph.
