Looking for suggestions on what type of dirt bike to get. Mostly trail riding but would like some good power for some fun. Thinking about going with a 250 two stroke but curious about a 450 four stroke. Suggestions?

Looks like it is a toss up between the 250 2 stroke and the 450 4 stroke.

Depends on how you ride I guess.

I wish you were closer - Id let you test ride some so you could decide. A 450 is a workout for sure. Power is very impressive - mine made 52 at the wheel and now they're over 60. They work on your forearms and then throttle control can start to be a problem. Also 450's are more prone to the random stall. Basically this stems from a lack of flywheel mass on the motocross versions. You can add flywheel weights on most of them and the later fuel injected bikes have more flywheel mass since they have to incorporate enough generating capacity to power it. A 250 2 stroke is probably easier to maintain and properly jetted work very well. They tend to be a little easier to turn because weight is carried lower in the frame. What sucks is there isn't a Japanese manufacturer making a really good off-road bike. They either have a motocross version or a heavy electric start highway capable version. KTM is about the only big supporter of offroad racing and they aren't cheap. Let me know if you're looking at something specific and maybe I can give you more information. Clay

Thanks for the info.

I know what you mean about KTM's, they aren't cheap. I was very interested in the 300 EXC until I saw the price, even the used ones are pretty expensive.
