Hi All, This picture shows the factory 6-quart oil pan with 7 quarts of water in it. It takes 7 quarts to get to "full" on the stock dipstick.

You can see that the water is a touch over the windage tray. Is this bad?

Thanks!!

I would think so. On my small blocks I run a 7 quart Moroso pan but still only run 6 quarts. I would think once oil gets in touch with the crankshaft nothing good happens. Once the oil gets whipped up and full of air pressure will start to suffer. I have to think its bad enough inside an engine already. Clay

The 7 quarts you are referring to includes the filter volume? if so this oil level would be down to the correct level. because 1 quart of this water would be in the filter.

And close to another quart going through the engine when running.
