Hope to wring out the Nova tomorrow at New England Dragway. It's going to be cool. Hopefully we'll be able to hook. Car feels good on the street but I haven't driven anything fast for quite awhile. The 200R4 is set to lock up in 2nd, 3rd as well as 4th gear. I'll try running it out the back door without locking it up. Then I'll try locking the converter at about 5500RPM in 3rd. Then we'll try different stuff. I can hold the converter at 2800-3000RPM. If I can leave that high without unloading.

I'll let everyone how it works out. I don't have a shield on the transmission so if I get into the 10's they'll, most likely tell me to slow down. Hopefully I'll have to let up at 1000 feet.

Sorry for the delay in getting back to you. Had a busy weekend with our grand daughters.
I didn't get into the 10's but it felt real good. I was able to launch at 3000RPM without unloading the tires. I tried coming out at 3200 but pushed the car through the light. The car went 11.077 at 121.09 MPH. That's slightly better than my best ever with the 700R4. The MPH is down 2MPH from my best. That was with a 4.10 rear gear. I switched to a 3.73 gear to try and calm down the leave with the 700R4. I believe that the switch in gear ratio hurts with the 200R4 because I went through the eyes at around 5600 RPM now instead of the 62-6300 it used to do.
I'm thinking of trying a set of 4.30's that I have. The closer gearing in the 200R4 works better for my heavy Nova (3714 pounds with driver and a near full tank of gas)
One thing I tried on my last 2 passes was to lock the converter when shifter into 2nd & 3rd.
My 60 foot times were mostly in the 1.56 area with a best of 1.54. The 1/8th mile times & ET's were close to my best with the 700R4. My Mickey Thompson ET street tires seemed to hook but they are 3 seasons old. Off hand I don't have a clue as the number of passes on them.

Car seems to pull throughout the pass. I'm guessing as to the RPM and the end of the quarter mile. I always run it out the back door during Test & Tune. Here are the numbers I have off my Data Logger on my best run:

Launched at: 3010 RPM
Shifted to 2nd at: 6430 RPM
RPM dropped to: 5340 RPM
Shifted to 3rd at: 6390 RPM
RPM dropped to: 5270 RPM
Converter locked at: 5540 RPM
RPM dropped to: 5420 RPM
Lifted at: 5720 RPM

Standard relative air density 103.60%
Track rel air density 104.10%
Effective altitude -1204.00 feet
Crosswind 7MPH gusting to 10MPH

***NOTE*** The weather info stated it was a tailwind but it was definately a crosswind, left to right. The flag was out straight most of the day.

Hopefully I'll be changing the gears in the next week or so and get up to the track before the weather gets too hot.
Although the improvement was minimal, I think is was better than originally thought. I haven't run quicker that 11.20's with the 3.73 gear.

.Seriously though an outstanding job of driving - I need you to drive mine. I haven't played with any numbers but 4.30 seems like it would be too much of a jump - I'm thinking put the 4.10's back in. I like those weather conditions! That is some good air! Good 60' times - keep diggin - you're close and I think you can get it. Clay

4.10s will get you there.
Might not even need to lock the converter if it is still accelerating on the top end. I'm sure you have tried both and know what works.

It was 2 seasons ago that I ran 11.08 with 4.10 gears. Don't remember the DA but I believe it was close to zero.

That's a big gain. Did you change anything else between those runs?

As far as I can tell it's the same. I jetted the secondaries 2 steps when we had it in the chassis dyno. I think that was before we made the pass with the 700R4. Chassis dyno showed 472 RWHP with the converter locked in 3rd gear.

I'm contemplating whether to put in a set of 4.30 gears that I already have or to buy a set of 4.10's. The 4.10's I have had a chipped tooth on the pinion. The 4.30's would only cost me time. Being retired, time is not a factor although it seems to take longer for me to do anything. Glad I'm not on flat rate. If I can't get it to hook up I can always go for the 4.10's. The 200R4 is out of my son's Grand National so it's got to go back. What a great opportunity to experiment without spending a bunch of money.

I forgot to thank you for showing the runs with the same weather conditions. Looks like if someone was starting out the 200R4 is the better option for drag racing.
