I have a 1964 Pontiac Catalina Wagon.
It currently has a 389 2brrl with the starter on the engine.
I want to build a Pontiac 400 using a block from 1968-1974 so that I can use a transmission with overdrive. I can't afford to use premium gas because this will be a daily driver. Right now it needs premium since everything is stock and the heads aren't ported for unleaded. Are there any heads that I can put on right now that will lower my compression and can be used on the engine I am building?
Where would I find a decent block and how much should those cost?

Thanks. I am new and I can unscrew things but I don't know enough numbers and engines to figure this stuff out. If you point me in the right direction I will try to figure it out thank you.

California. How late of a model? I was told that, up to 1974 the mounting would be the same as the one I have now.

If it's cheap enough I would be able to get it.

How do I know what heads to pick? I would prefer to get the heads first and install them on this car as it is a daily driver currently.

The casting number on the heads currently on there are
9773345
I am trying to find more information on them to see if it will help me find some new ones. ( That are ported for unleaded). Or should I just get these ported and use them on the 400?
