Hello everyone, new here but have been building crazy street big blocks for 25 years. I have a question that I have not heard asked for quite a while, what if any piston coatings are currently being used? The obvious benefits being retained heat in the combustion chamber. For that matter is anyone coating the combustion chambers?
In the bygone days we would scuff up the pistons and actually paint them with high heat header paint, cook them in the oven and run 'em!

Mahle uses a phosphate coating that is nice till you cut the piston for the VP clearance. Then it is like any other piston made.
I understand you're thought but I don't know if real #'s exist on coatings. |

Yeah, I know what you mean. Amazingly the old method of painting the domes actually worked, the paint would still be there after teardown.
I remember reading somewhere about the advantages of thermal coatings in the combustion chamber but I would be curious if there really is any benefit beyond the theoretical. I always look for any extra edge!
Great site by the way,
