My dad picked up this '90 F150 with the 5.0 5spd in it for about 200 bucks. Its beat up being that it was a work truck but it has 33" swampers and its a 4x4. The PO ran it hot, so my plan is just to tear it down and see what I have to work with. So I start pulling the plug wires which was a pita in itself since they were basically melted on there. Get to the spark plugs and they all look fine till I get to the 3&5 cylinders. Number 3 had some water on it and number 5 had metal soldered to the tip of the plug. I'll post pictures later Very Happy

Looks like its Ford rebuilding time, I guess theres a first time for everything...

Hey guys got a question for ya. Ok so we picked up a 302 long block, it is from the last year they put the 5.0 in the mustang. I did a little reading and found out that the firing order is different from the one that is in the truck currently. Now should I use the firing order from the truck or mustang when I drop it in? Is it to do with the cam design?

Thanks

Cam determines firing order. So use the firing order for a 5.0 liter Ford.

the 85-95 mustang's firing order is the same as a 351w, while the early 302 (non-H.O.) firing order is different... I have heard before this wouldnt work due to the injectors being out of sync to valve events, but that is only a rumor...

Just switch the injector harness to match the firing order.

If I remember you have to lengthen some wires to reach?
Everything else on that one should be the same.

I know this is old, but just going to clear up things about this swap, 1990 trucks aren't sequential injected, they are bank fired 4 and 4, 351w and 302 have same injector firing sequences 1,4,5,8 are tied together and 2,3,6,7 are tied together, So it does not matter the firing order, but you must have spark plugs wired like the mustang.

the mustangs (5.0HOs) use a 351W firing order based on the cam, and the injectors are fired based on the cam, so if you want to use the mustang cam (more HP) you must use the mustang firing order and computer so everything matches
