Piston and Connecting Rods What's everyone using?

In my case high rpm is the main stress, although these combos are surprisingly easy on parts. Going off memory, the pistons weigh 540 grams which isnt bad for a 4.615 slug, and ironically the rod weight is almost identical. The pins weigh 140, and I cant remember what the ring package weighed 40 maybe? I was able to reuse the rod and main bearings, one of the beauties of a dry sump. Those blowers make gobs of torque and you need some stout parts to handle it. I have a friend with a blown gas hydro, and he also runs arias pistons with good results.

The one mentioned shifts at 9500.
The pistons are way more than 540 grams. (Hemi) Laughing

I'll probably open up a can of worms here but from what I have seen and read is , the rod is usually not the point of failure but the rod bolt.Sometimes from not changing them when needed or improper streaching procedures.

But for the money I am changing the rods @ 50 passes whether they need it or not.

I've been building this engine for 4 yrs, because unfortunately I'm not independently wealthy either. cry baby

I have learned in the past its better to wait a while than buy cheaper parts, I don't have very good luck with those.

Look at the latest CarCraft. The centerfold features Mike Morans twin turbo 572. It says they run it 100 passes before tearing the motor down and then it's mainly to change the rods. Says they make around 3700 h.p. - sounds like some pretty good parts to survive that for that long. I'll look today to see what they run. Clay

100 runs at close to 4000 HP. Wow he has some VERY good parts. I guess if you can afford to blow it up, you have a tendency to push the time between tear downs.

I would be curious to find out which rods he is running, I understand he builds everything custom. The rods are probably one off's just for him.
