I hope one of you can help me . my 87 Camaro vin F 305 tip Auto w/ ac. it has been giving a check engine light from time to time, at lite cruz on the freeway , then clearing it self. Tonight It stayed on most of the way home, so when I got off the free way I shut it down to see what would happen to the light after restart. oopps no start for a bit. Finally got it lit & made it home w/o any more problems. My snap on 2500 computer unit shows a code 32 EGR problem ( the book shows this is for an early 80's v6). the only other abnormal thing I noticed was it was saying the O2 sender running lean. any ideas? fuel pressure is at 42 with the engine off 34 running. HELP please!
terry

Sounds like a sticking EGR to me. My 87 truck used to do the same thing. I was not sticking all the time which made it difficult to find.

my guess is the egr valve stayed open

when you attempted to start it it wouldnt run cause an egr valve is a controlled vacuum leak using exhaust instead of manifold vacuum

the o2 was lean due to the valve being open cause instead of spent exhaust it was just another atmospheric vacuum leak

if you would like i can pm you a flow chart diagnostic with elec. diagrams

id just take off the valve and clean it out good then attempt to start with valve out to blow out any chunks Shocked

That would be Great Squeezer. I was thinking of tring to clean it. but wasn't sure with having to pul the tpi induction apart some, just to get to the EGR valve, I thought I might get a new one to bury in there Laughing .

WOW EGR valves have gone up local shop wants just under $100.00 for a new one. This one is going to get cleaned. Squeezer
just to make sure I understand the system right it uses vacuum to open the valve until the proper temp is reached, right?

Rolling Eyes Here is another post you can ignore.

It is opened up when the engine is under light loads. If it remains open "stuck" it will cause a lean condition and will make idle quality poor and cause the codes you are seeing. This will also rob you of any top end power where the valve should again be closed.
