Smoke I wouldnt go any bigger than that cam. That should be good with the automatic. The 230s idles with a pretty noticeable idle and 240s you will hate the thing. I did a firebird for a guy that was LT-4 based 383 C.I. max ported the heads and vortec blower with a cam in the mid 230s precision industries lock up converter with a slight stall just to keep it from wanting to drag the car forward at the lights, and I converted it to a 4L80E trans with a accell controller. Anyway my point is this, it made 580 at the tire with 9 psi boost, and the guy insisted on a bigger cam which I recommended against going any bigger. I went to a 244 duration and one more pound of boost and the thing only netted 12 more horsepower with a terribly rough idle. After the first week the guy called me and said he hated the way it ran (idled) I also did a cast iron block 6.0 in a 04 GMC truck The heads were treated to a full C&C port bigger valves and the cam is 218 duration with a Magnusen roots blower. The tuner got it to idle dead stock with a stock converter at 700 rpm. That truck runs mid 12s on street tires, and the bird ran 10.7 on small slicks. BTW the 6.0 heads flowed over 300 cfm

Quick question for you smoke...
Did you do any other mods at the time you swaped your converter in? I'm wondering what kind of difference it made for you. I'm doing a full exhaust, tune, Transgo shift kit, 2800 stall and drag radials on my '98 Z, and am just wondering how well the converter worked for your times. My budget is $2100 this year, so hopefully these will be the most effective parts for the money.

You seem to have the right idea of matching all of your parts to work WITH each other, instead of against one another. It's nice to see that someone else doesnt have the money to do all thier mods at once.

The converter netted 0.5 seconds gain in the 1/4 mi. It's a TCI 3000 street fighter. If I had to do it over again (and had the money) I'd go with the Yank SS3600.

Thanks for the info!! I'm running the Yank 2800, because of the VERY few mods I've done. I ran 13.6 at 104 last year, bone stock on street tires with 85000 mi. Hopefully with the stall and drag radials I'll hit 12.8x.

Thanks again, smoke!
