A guy just called and told me he has a 68 Camaro ss-rs 396 4 spd. Orig BB car but non matching numbers, tach and guages, deluxe interior Car has been sitting 25 years and needs a total restoration. It does have original paint and is totally rust free, but needs to be stripped and repainted. He offered it to me for 7k. What do you think?

ummm... if you are looking for a Camaro sounds like a steal! Have you looked at what they are fetching on ebay?

Definetely a good price if the car is really rust free!! If you don't buy it, give me # of the buyer as I might be interested in buying it!

all of the rubber suspension bushings will need to be replaced. if not now, as soon as you start driving it. fuel tank needs to be removed and cleaned. new carb (or rebuild), fuel pump, fuel lines/hoses, water pump, the usual maintenance & tune-up items. usually end up with several oil leaks when it starts running again. im not saying dont buy it, im just letting you know what i have to replace/repair on all of the "its been sitting for a while" cars. can you look at it in person ?

I think the key is if it really is rust free. If it's been parked on dirt for 25 years it may be quite rusty underneath.
I think you'd have to do the whole car over. If you have to pay to have work done it will be expensive to have it done right. If you are not a body man, take one with you when you look it over.
They are worth a lot of money.

On e-Bay the cowl tags and a clear title (car is optional) are going for $7,000. People are paying that much to get a tag for their brand new Goodmark Camaros that have all new sheet metal but no documentation to put them on the street. Now that is what I call getting pricey.

The car is in california in the desert, and has been sitting in his garage the whole time, however at his own admission it needs everything, interior, rubber, suspension, engine rebuild. I am looking at it tomorrow, and I am taking a flatbed tow truck with me. I am going to try and get it for 5k if I can. I kind of know this guy, he is the one who bought my blue 68 camaro race car about 2 years ago, and he still had my phone#.

Good Luck!! It's worth every penny if it's a true 396 RS/SS even with a non-matching numbers engine..
