I did a bunch of work to my frined Rob's cars in the past. He used to road race, and I built an engine, a few rears, and did some suspension work. Then he went drifting, and went through 2 cars.
The current car is far from mainstream, especially from a drift point of view. It's a 2-door Volvo, with 250-ish horsepower at the rear wheels. 2600 pounds or so.

I recommended a locked diff, so I had the welding students weld 4 of them. I then set up 2 with shims so he could swap them, with 3.90:1 gears.

He bought a hydraulic hand brake, so I welded a bracket.

And of course it had to be low (too low in my opinion), with Kodiak race wheels, 18x8 front, 18x9 rear.

It sports a ball bearing turbo, a T5 trans (Volvo trannies suck), and huge front discs, stock rear discs.

I drove almost 5 hours to Richmond, and drove it in a NASA autocross at VMP (the drag strip) south of Petersburg VA.
What a hoot! This thing goes sideways slowing down, speeding up, and cornering. I need to work on a few things suspension and steering wise, but it was very fun. I had people asking for ride, so I obliged.
Pics of the event here, http://www.get-fast.net/nasacross/ it's the first car, top left (the event big dog loved it). direct pic link http://www.get-fast.net/nasacross/6011.jpg
I neglected to take pics and video, I was too busy having fun. (and since then one of my students stole my digicam)

BTW, NOTHING autocrosses as well as a ZO6 Vette.
