Can anybody help me out what you think my car will run. Ok, here re the basics. It is a 1985 Monte Carlo SS. It has 295/50/15 tires with 3.73's with TH350 with 3500 stall converter. The engine is 408sbc with approximately 9.2-9.35:1 compression with 280H comp cam. The heads are the higher HP double humps from like 1969 Z-28 Camaro with 302 or 1969-1970 Corvette with 350 (range from 350-370hp). They have been milled 2x, dont know how much off though. It has a Edelbrock Performer intake with 830 Holley double pumper on top with 14"x3.5" K&N air filter. It has a MSD Super HEI kit in it. Please tell me what approximate ET this will run in 1/4 mile in central ks (2000' elevation, corrected air when 80 degrees is about 4000'). Thank you.

Well I believe, not positive though it weight 3750 with I and my friend, he weighs about 180, so the car and I probably weigh about 3570-3600lbs. This is just guestimate.

Hi Junkyarddog,
You might get the car into the high 13's at 102-104mph.
The big problem will be getting it to hook with street tires. You've got a lot of torque through 4500rpm. It must feel like a killer on the street.Seems like a lot of carb for the cam, heads and intake. What are you running for exhaust?

If you're going to up the compression (I saw the other post under engines) I'd run a longer duration cam. Harold at Ultradyne can pick a good one for you.

I plan on running slicks at the track. I know carb is little big but it is only thing I have and I don't have money to buy new carb, only other I have is 570 and thats too small.

Right now the car has 2 1/4" duals all way back with Dynomax Super Turbos, however this was setup for different engine, I know I need better. I am getting some Flowmasters with 2.5"-3" out the back, what do you think would be best? For now I will run open headers at race track. I think as soon as I get money I am going to buy 215cc 2.02/1.60 72 cc Dart Iron Eagle heads for it.

What track do you run at. At New England Dragway we have to run through the exhaust. Trying to keep the locals happy. The track has been there since the 70's but now they are building homes nearer and nearer to the track.

Slicks will certainly help with your launch. I wouldn't play with the exhaust until you update your engine unless you have the money to spend.

I race at SRCA Dragstrip in Great Bend, KS (it is Great Bend Motorplex on dragstrip locator). Great Bend, known for being home of first Nationals. Our track is about 2.5 miles from town so they do not say anything about the sound levels, matter of fact we have Lucas Oil Division 5 points race there in August for 1st time, they don't complain about TAD, had couple test there this year already. At 1st T&T we had Edwin Schmeekle (2nd in Lucas Oil TAD Division 5 points in 2002), he ran a 5.77@247MPH on a track set up for bracket race not him, and a test & tune at that! The city never complained about his TAD at all, and you know it is loud!

Yeah JD you probably heard a 13.75, but on Saturday it ran a 13.49 dropping 5 MPH b/c I lifted. However, I think my converter might have been slipping a little bit, it has always made a little noise now it makes the same noise just magnified a lot. It went out in quarterfinals of sportsman. I thought I roasted tires but didn't ( 1.833 to 2.121 60' time) and at other end my tach was at 4800-4900 but it was at 4400-4500 rest of day at 98-99 mph, but I ran 94 that pass. The other guy red lit so I was in semi's. My converter got worse from there, had 2.32 60'. When I got back to trailer I barely could get it to pull itself up ramps on trailer, I planned on driving it home until that happened. I had 3500 stall converted, its getting replaced with 2800-3200 stall (new). I think I could get it to run 12's next race, I mean I was running 30" slicks with 3.73's, took awhile to get moving, lol. Plus I ran it through the exhaust all the way out the back. Keep in mind all I have is 2 1/4" through with cheap Dynomax Super Turbo's. Several people said I might gain .40 if I opened up headers or put 3" exhaust, well for now headers will be opened b/c 3" exhaust clear out back will not be cheap, lol. You could tell at higher RPM's the exhaust was too small. With good exhaust with same tires I think I can run 12.80-13.20 at 102-106, depending on the day. If I put shorter tire ot steeper gears I could see mid 12's on good day.
